# scoop Fish and Win

> scoop, Coop's youth platform, meets Gen Z at festivals. Together with jim & jim, we developed a loot-box fishing concept for the brand.

## At a glance

- Loot-box fishing for scoop, Coop's platform for 16- to 25-year-olds, at Energy Air Luzern, with a concept developed with jim & jim
- Wearing a helmet and using a fishing rod, participants catch RFID loot boxes from a rotating platform, with a countdown and buzzers
- At the desk, the boxes are opened virtually, and the stars inside can be exchanged for prizes in three categories
- Rotating platform 1.2 metres across with around 40 loot boxes, an average of around 80 games per hour
- Game mechanics, rotating platform, counter, cladding, game design and programming all developed at made

## Starting point
scoop is Coop's platform for 16- to 25-year-olds. At events such as Energy Air Luzern, it was to become something people could experience, raise awareness of the app and encourage downloads. We developed the concept together with jim & jim. In short: reach Gen Z through play.

## The brief
Our idea: take "scooping" from the app into the real world, as fishing. We needed a hands-on game, played alone or in pairs, with real suspense and a prize at the end. And with the world of scoop right in the middle: colourful, with the loot boxes from scoop's social channels and the little eyes that peek out everywhere at scoop.

## The principle
An easy invitation that lets anyone play and win. Wearing a helmet and holding a fishing rod, participants catch loot boxes from a rotating platform. A countdown keeps up the pace, and screens and buzzers give each turn its own small moment.

At the desk, the boxes they caught are opened virtually. After a short animation, the screen shows how many stars were inside. The stars are added up and exchanged for prizes in three categories: 1 to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 to 10 stars. Loot-box fishing is a hybrid of luck and skill, modelled on the loot boxes of Gen Z's gaming world. On average, people fished around 80 times an hour.

## From the workshop

Everything came from made: the game mechanics, rotating platform, counter and cladding, plus game design and programming with the countdown, prize algorithm, backend and reporting. The platform, made of wood and MDF, is 1.2 metres across and holds around 40 loot boxes. Each box carries an RFID chip, so the desk knows which box was caught.
